To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, the Community Observatory partnered with KVIE PBS of Sacramento to host a preview of American Experience|PBS documentary 'Chasing the Moon' on June 27, 2019. The preview featured the story of the Saturn V rocket and Apollo 8 mission. As special guests, we hosted Sacramento's own 'Rocket Men', Don Brincka and Dick Serrano, who worked on testing S-IV B, the third stage of the Saturn V rocket as part of the Douglas Aircraft Test Center SACTO in Rancho Cordova. Their work helped optimize the composition of Liquid Oxygen/Hydrogen fuel for the Apollo missions. The event also featured science demonstrations from the Physics & Astronomy Club of Sacramento State University.
