Volunteer Opportunities

Do you have a passion for astronomy and are willing to donate your time and knowledge? Be a guide and a source of interesting information about current cosmic events, deep space objects, stars, planets, and the observatory facility and telescopes.

What is a Docent?

Docents are volunteers who make sure your Observatory experience is both educational and rewarding.

Our Junior Docent Program

Attention all High School and College Students! Are you looking to pursue a

career in STEM or Aerospace? Are you interested in Astronomy and would like to

share your knowledge with the public? Would you like to have a chance at

earning a scholarship towards your college education?

The Community Observatory is looking for you! As a jr. docent you will be under the direct supervision of our well trained docents, many of whom currently are or have had careers in the Aerospace field. You will be working with our sophisticated telescopes, and will learn how to give the public sky tours, greet visitors and learn a lot about our night sky in the process.

To become a jr. docent, you will need to be at least 14 years old (with a parent

present), be able to volunteer at least 2 times per month (3 hour shifts), and

behave responsibly.

Docents and jr. docents who are high school seniors or are currently enrolled in college and pursuing a degree in the STEM fields may be eligible for a

scholarship award from the observatory.

Let us help you to “reach for the stars”!
